What Happens to Your Photos After the Shoot? Delivery, Editing Timelines and Usage Rights Explained

By Dmytro Derkach · Brussels-based commercial photographer

Photo delivery timelines and usage rights rarely get explained clearly before a shoot, which is exactly when confusion starts. The shoot itself is the visible part of hiring a photographer.

The editing timeline

Standard delivery for a corporate or event shoot in Brussels typically runs one to two weeks, depending on shot volume. A short session with under 50 images might turn around faster; a full-day conference generating hundreds of usable shots takes longer to properly cull, retouch, and export. Rush delivery, needed within 24-48 hours, is usually available at an added cost.

What “edited” actually includes

Standard editing covers color correction, exposure and contrast adjustments, and light retouching, blemish removal, straightening a crooked tie, cleaning up a distracting background element. Heavier retouching, extensive skin work or object removal, is often quoted separately rather than included by default.

How images actually get delivered

Most Brussels photographers deliver through a private online gallery rather than email attachments, allowing a client to review, select favorites, and download full-resolution files directly. This also gives the client a permanent, organized archive rather than a scattered set of email threads.

The usage rights that come with delivery

Delivered files typically come with a usage license, not unrestricted ownership. Confirming the scope, internal use, external marketing, social media, print, and the time period covered, should happen before the invoice is paid, not after a photo has already been repurposed somewhere the license did not cover.

What to actually check before signing off

Before considering a project complete, confirm the full-resolution files have been received (not compressed web-only versions), the agreed image count matches what was delivered, and the usage terms match what was verbally discussed at booking. A five-minute check at delivery avoids a much longer conversation months later.
