We Already Have Team Photos From Last Year. Do We Really Need to Redo Them?

By Dmytro Derkach · Brussels-based commercial photographer

If nobody has joined, left, or changed how they look, probably not. In practice, that’s rarely the case.

A company of thirty typically changes about a fifth of its team in a year — new hires, departures, a promotion that puts someone new on the leadership page. Each of those creates a mismatch: one portrait shot in a different year, on a different background, sometimes even in different clothes for the season. Nobody notices the drift happening one photo at a time, but a visitor to the team page notices the collage effect immediately.

The instinct to skip a refresh comes from “it still looks fine” — which is usually true for any single photo, and false for the set as a whole. The set is what’s judged, not the individual image.

  • Check turnover, not just how the existing photos look individually
  • A fifth of a team changing per year is enough to start the mismatch
  • The problem is visible at the set level, not the photo level

A short follow-up session for new joiners, using the same setup as the original shoot, is usually enough to close the gap — without redoing the whole team.
