Social Media Content Shoots: How Many Photos Do You Actually Need Per Month?

A business planning its first regular content shoot almost always asks the wrong first question. It is not “how many photos do I need” but “how often do I actually post, and on how many platforms.”

Working backward from posting frequency

A business posting three times a week across Instagram and LinkedIn needs roughly 12-15 images a month, accounting for some repurposing of the same image across formats and a mix of photo and other content types. A business posting daily needs closer to 25-30, though not all of these need to come from a single professional shoot.

One shoot rarely covers a full month cleanly

A single two-hour content session typically produces 20-40 usable final images, depending on setup variety. Stretched carefully, with some repurposing across platforms and combined with lighter content shot in-house on a phone, this can realistically cover four to six weeks of regular posting.

Why more photos per session beats more sessions

Booking a longer session with more setups and variety, rather than several short, frequent sessions, is usually more cost-effective per image and produces a more cohesive visual set, since everything is shot under the same lighting and styling in one sitting.

The mixed-content approach

Most Brussels businesses running social content well combine a quarterly or monthly professional shoot for hero content, product features, brand imagery, with quick in-house phone photos for timely, lower-stakes posts, behind-the-scenes moments, quick updates, that do not need professional polish.

The practical number

For a business posting a few times a week, a quarterly session producing 30-40 images, supplemented with in-house content between sessions, covers most needs without the cost of monthly professional bookings. Businesses with heavier posting schedules or fast-changing product lines may need monthly sessions to keep pace.
