How to Vet a Corporate Photographer in Brussels: Questions That Separate Pros from Amateurs

By Dmytro Derkach · Brussels-based commercial photographer

A polished portfolio website tells a business almost nothing about whether a photographer can actually deliver on a corporate shoot. The gap between a good portfolio and a good hire shows up in the details most companies forget to check before signing anything.

Ask what percentage of their work is actually corporate

A photographer whose portfolio leans heavily on weddings or personal portraits is working from a different skill set than one shooting boardrooms and conferences daily. Ask directly what share of recent work has been corporate. A vague answer, or one that pivots toward other genres, is worth noting.

Look for full galleries, not just hero shots

Any portfolio can show ten perfect images. Ask to see a complete event gallery or a full team shoot, not a curated highlight reel. Consistency across dozens of images, not just the best five, is what predicts reliability on an actual booking.

Confirm backup equipment and insurance

A single camera body with no backup is a real risk at a one-time corporate event that cannot be reshot. Ask whether the photographer carries backup gear and liability insurance, since many corporate venues require proof of the latter before allowing a shoot at all.

Get specifics on turnaround and image count

A photographer unwilling to commit to an approximate delivered image count or a turnaround window is a photographer who has not thought through their own process. Both numbers should come without hesitation.

Clarify usage rights before booking, not after

Confirm explicitly whether the images can be used internally only, in external marketing, or across social media, and for how long. This detail gets overlooked constantly and causes real friction later when a company wants to reuse a photo for a new campaign.

The short version

A written contract, clear turnaround commitment, backup equipment, insurance, and an honest answer about corporate experience separate a professional from someone who happens to own a good camera. Any hesitation on these five points is worth taking seriously before booking.
