Amazon and Marketplace Photo Requirements: What Brussels Sellers Need to Know

Marketplace platforms are not shy about rejecting listing photos that do not meet their technical requirements, and sellers photographing products themselves for the first time discover this the hard way, usually after a listing gets flagged.

The pure white background rule

Amazon, and most major marketplaces, require a pure white background for the main listing image, not an off-white or cream tone that looks white to the eye but fails a technical check. Sellers photographing products on a kitchen table or against a cluttered surface risk outright rejection of the main image, along with lower click-through rates even when the photo does get approved.

Minimum resolution and framing

Marketplaces generally require the product to fill 85 percent or more of the image frame, with enough resolution to support zoom functionality, since customers rely heavily on zooming in before buying anything they cannot physically touch.

What gets photos rejected or buried

Visible packaging, price tags, or promotional text in the main image, watermarks or logos added by the seller, and props or additional items not included in the actual purchase are all common reasons a listing photo gets rejected or ranked lower in search results.

A rejected or low-ranking main image does not just look unprofessional. It directly reduces visibility in marketplace search algorithms, which weight image compliance as part of ranking. Getting this right the first time avoids a resubmission cycle that can cost a seller real time and sales during the delay.
