How Do I Know I'll Get Photos I Like Before I Pay for Them?

By Dmytro Derkach · Brussels-based commercial photographer

You don’t pay in full before seeing anything. Here’s how the process actually protects you.

Every project runs on the same structure: a deposit to confirm the date, the shoot itself, then a preview selection of edited images before the final invoice and full delivery. You approve the direction from the preview set — the final payment comes after you’ve seen real, finished work from your own session, not a promise.

Invoicing runs through SMart, a recognised Belgian cooperative structure — you’re paying a registered entity with a paper trail, not sending money to a private account. That also means a proper invoice for your accounting from day one.

If you want to see what “recent work” actually looks like rather than a curated best-of spanning years, ask to see the most recent sessions — for example, the shoots from this past week. Recent, unedited-for-highlight-reel work tells you more about what to expect than a ten-year archive.

  • Deposit confirms the booking, not the final price
  • You see a preview selection before the final invoice
  • Full, retouched delivery follows your approval of the preview
  • Invoicing is transparent and traceable through SMart

If a photographer can’t show you anything from the last few weeks, that’s worth asking about directly.
